  • Charles “Charlie” Patterson, 90, of Pasadena, Maryland passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on May 16, due to natural causes.

    He was born in Matewan, West Virginia on July 5, 1923.  He graduated from Concord College in Athens, West Virginia and retired from Anne Arundel County Public Schools as a teacher and guidance counselor.

    Mr. Patterson was a radio operator with the shore patrol in the Naval Air Force during World War II.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Audrey Lucille Patterson (nee Crotty).  Mr. Patterson is survived by his devoted children Dan Patterson; Dale Dorsch, Gini Hicks and her husband Otts; Sandy Jordan and her husband David; Patty Dietz and her husband Clay; and Kelly Isom and her husband Steve.  He was lovingly known as “Pop” by his 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  He enjoyed spending time with his large family, golfing, reading, gardening, camping, fishing, and playing the harmonica.  In addition, he was a gold medal senior Olympian in billiards.

    A viewing will be held at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena on Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and a private burial will be held on Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Make a Wish Foundation, or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
