  • June W. “Grandma June” Burnett, 88, died on October 23, 2014 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

    She was born on December 12, 1925 to the late Paul M. and Ethel A. Whitesell. She grew up in Johnstown, NY and lived in several states before settling in Crofton in 1965.  Mrs. Burnett lived in Crofton until 2006 when she moved to Centerville, OH.

    Mrs. Burnett was an elementary school teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools at Crofton Elementary for over 10 years before retiring in the early 1980’s.  Upon retiring, she began volunteering at the elementary school where she became known as “Grandma June”, a term of endearment by which she became known to many throughout the rest of her life. 

    Mrs. Burnett was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Crofton and attended Centerville Community Church in OH.  She was a woman of prayer who read and journaled prolifically.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burnett is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frank Burnett, her grandson Gerald Palmer and her great granddaughter Breanne Palmer.

    She is survived by her son Chip Burnett, his wife Kelly, and their children Rebecca, Emily, and Jack, her daughters; Sylvia Palmer, her son Gary, Jr., his wife Denise, and their children Bryce, Ethan, and Chloe; and Carolyn Apisa, her husband Jay, and their children Paul, Luke, and Christiana.

    Friends may call on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 AM at the Stallings Funeral Home, P.A. where funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 11:30 AM.  Interment Private.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the children’s charity of your choice.
