  • James Paul Mitchell, 95,  a 6 year resident of Severna Park and formerly of Pasadea died on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Heartland Assisted Living.

    He was born on Saturday, July 24, 1920 in Kingston, OK to the late Sadie and James Robert Mitchell.
    Mr. Mitchell served honorably during WWII in the Merchant Marine from 1942 until 1946.  He moved to the DC area in 1962 and rose to the Execurtive Service in the Carter Administration.  He retiredin 1983 from the Department of Labor as the Director of ApprenticeshipTtraining with over 40 years of service.  He was a member of the Magothy River Association . His hobbies included sailing and world traveling.
    In addition to his parents Mr. Mitchell Sr. is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Frances E. Mitchell, his daughter Carol Sue Nightengale and his sister Alice R. Mitchell.
    He is survived by his daughter  Jane Wampler of Gambrills, sons James P. Mitchell  Jr.,  of Silver Spring and Robert Mitchell of Cape Cod, MA, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at Heartlands Assisted Living in Severna Park on Thursday, May 5th at 1:00 PM to be followed by graveside services at George Washington Cemetery in Adelphi at 2:45 PM.
