    Vernon E. Calvert, Sr., 83, a 44 year resident of Pasadena, died March 6 at Mercy Hospital after a four month illness.
    He was born in Brooklyn on February 4, 1926 to the late William A. Calvert and the late Dora E. Calvert.
    Mr. Calvert was a descendant of Maryland's founding family.
    A master carpenter and pile driver, Mr. Calvert helped build the Bay Bridge, The U.S.F. & G. Building, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, The Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and The Baltimore Subway.  He was a 40 year member of the Carpenters Local 101 in Baltimore.
    He enjoyed crabbing, gardening, raising pigeons, playing cards, chess, checkers, and dominoes.  He also enjoyed spending time with family.
    Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Jo Ann J. Calvert nee Theodore; three sons, Vernon E. Calvert, Jr. of Pasadena, James A. Calvert of Pasadena, and Paul T. Calvert of Pasadena; two daughters, Debra A. Matt of Stevensville, and Cynthia M. Williams of Pasadena; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  He was also survived by one brother, Clifton Calvert of Brooklyn Park, and two sisters Doris Benford and Gloria Tumminello, both of Pennsylvania. 
    He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
    Funeral services will be held today at 12 noon at the Stallings Funeral Home, PA 3111 Mountain Rd., Pasadena.  Interment Glen Haven Cemetery.
