  • James Edward Somers, Sr. age 92, of Pasadena, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born on January 20, 1926 in Easton, MD.  At age 4, he moved to South Baltimore where he graduated from Southern High School.  Jim joined the U.S. Army at 18 serving as a Sgt., Tec 4 in World War II.  On May 1, 1954, Jim married Arlene Meeks at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore, MD.


    Jim was a member of St. Jane Frances Church in Pasadena.  Together with his wife, they attended many dance functions, leading to countless friendships, social activities and travels. Jim was passionate about time spent with his family, fishing, crabs, playing cards, sports, vacations with family and friends, and home improvements. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John Leo and Loretta; sisters, Katherine and Cecilia; and brother, Leo.


    Jim is survived by his wife, Arlene, of 64 years, daughter, Karen Tate and husband, Keith; James Somers, Jr. and wife, Jean; daughter, Diane Brennan; and son, Robert Somers and wife, Traci.  Jim is survived by 11 grandchildren: Zachary Tate and wife, Ashlee; Eric Tate and wife, Lauren; Katelyn Mazzochette and husband, Mark; Bryan Somers, Jason Somers, Joshua Brennan, Andrew Brennan, Michael  Brennan, Patrick Brennan, Reagan Somers, and Noelle Somers; and 5 great grandchildren: Landon Johnson - Tate, Brooke Tate, Grayson Tate, Ava Tate and Paul Mazzochette; also numerous nieces and nephews.


    Relatives and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Jim’s life at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena on Tuesday, April 3 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jane Frances Church, 8499 Virginia Avenue, Pasadena on Wednesday, April 4 at 10am. Immediately following, internment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake at www.hospicechesapeake.org.
