  • D. "Buckey" Clemson, Sr, 87, a lifelong resident of Gibson Island, MD died on July 17, 2018 in West Virginia.
    He was born on November 4, 1930 in Baltimore, MD to the late Walter B. and Winifred (nee Klitch) Clemson.  Mr. Clemson graduated from Baltimore City College in 1949 going on to receive his Bachelors Degree from John Hopkins and his Masters from Drexel.
    He was employed by General Electric as an Electrical Engineer/Program Manager specializing in communications.  Mr. Clemson was in charge of the satellite system located on aircraft carriers that sent live video of the splash down of Apollo 7 through 17 to the NASA satellite for which he received an Emmy.
    Mr. Clemson was a lifetime member of the Gibson Island Club and a longtime member of Lake Shore Rotary Club and St. Christopher by the Sea.
    Buckey was an avid scuba diver and world traveler.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and sailing.
    In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Judith R. Clemson and his sister Winifred Clemson Davis.
    Mr. Clemson is survived by his son D. Buckey Clemson, Jr. and his wife Susan, his daughter Kathryn Clemson Verbanic, his brother-in-law John T. Robertson III and his wife Nancy, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at St. Christopher By the Sea 511 Broadwater Way Gibson Island, MD 21056.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made Rotary International.
