Joann Jeanette Malczewski, 82, a longtime resident of Pasadena, died on January 23rd, 2019 at Genesis Health Care Center in Severna Park.

Mrs. Malczewski was born on February 27th, 1936 to the late James John and Janina Lipka Rolka. She lived her early years in Baltimore and later moved to Pasadena where she lived and raised her family. Joann graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1954 where she excelled as a top female athlete, lettering in volleyball, basketball, and softball.  Being an athlete herself, she soon became an avid Baltimore Ravens fan after being a Baltimore Colts fan for many years.

Mrs. Malczewski worked as an administrative clerk for a short time at Westinghouse Corporation until she became a mother and full-time homemaker. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing authentic Polish food for special holidays and throughout the year.

Sundays were always set aside for her "Sunday drives" with her husband, Andy. Never venturing too far, they enjoyed many road trips from Maryland's Eastern Shore to the mountains of Western Maryland. Summer vacations were always spent "down the Ocean" in Ocean City, MD.

In later years, Joann's grandchildren and great-grandchildren became her passion. She would spend as much time as she could playing and reading with them and became an essential part of their lives. Her legacy lives on with the knowledge and experience she has passed onto them. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Malczewski is preceded in death by her brothers, John and Alphonse Rolka; sisters, Barbara Anselmi, Cecelia Lukiewski, Stella Pirchalski, and Catherine Green. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Anthony M. Malczewski, Sr; sons, Anthony Malczewski, Jr. of Oregon and Mark A. Malczewski of Denton; daughter, Carolyn Hackmann (Carl) of Severna Park; 5 grandchildren, Gregory Hackmann (Nichole) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Leah Hackmann Marks (Nick) of Severna Park, Timothy Hackmann (Danijela) of Severna Park, Amy Malczewski of Baltimore, and Leesa Malczewski of Severn; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ayden and Lilliana Hackmann, Olivia Hackmann, and Eric Marks.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 27th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Rd., Pasadena, MD 21122 where services will be held on Monday, January 28th at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Crownsville, MD immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122 or the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr. Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
