  • Margaret Louise McHenry Anderson, M.D. , 85, of Sillery Bay in Pasadena, passed away on Monday evening, May 11, 2009 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in the presence of her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Thomas and Ruth McHenry of Plainview Nebraska, and her sister Frances Stephen of Omaha, Nebraska. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald John Anderson, her sister Elizabeth Berry of Vancouver, B.C. and her children Joyce Anderson of Morgantown, WV, John Anderson and his wife Diane of Annapolis, Mark Anderson of Pasadena, and Matthew Anderson and his wife JoAnn of Richmond, VA. She had many nieces and nephews, 8 grand children and 3 great grand children.

    Born in Plainview, Nebraska on March 14, 1924, Margaret graduated from Plainview High School in 1942, and the went on to the University of Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1951 and began her professional career of service as a Psychiatrist. In 1958 she married Donald Anderson. She and her family lived in several parts of the country before settling in Anne Arundel County in 1965, when she began her career with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. As Director of Mental Health for Anne Arundel County, Dr. Anderson was a wise and spirited physician serving the public for more than 20 years.

    She retired to her home in Pasadena in 1985 and remained active in the community as a volunteer with the Sillery Bay Improvement Association. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and studying. In 1990, at age 66, she took up windsurfing and was frequently seen sailing her board on the Magothy River, well into her seventies. She loved to swim, and did so often in the warmer months, into her eighties.

    The family will receive friends at Stallings Funeral Home on Mountain Road, Thursday evening, May 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church in Pasadena at 11:30 on Friday, May 15 with a reception following the service. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Sillery Bay Improvement Association, P.O.
