  • Isla E. Merchant, 87, a resident of Federalsburg and formerly of Crownsville, died on April 14, 2019 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE.

    Mrs. Merchant was born on July 3, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to the late Jean and Anna Fuller. She graduated from Catonsville High School in the late 1940s and worked as the co-owner of the family business, J.P. Fuller, for over 50 years. In the late 1960s, Isla was active at Magothy United Methodist Church in Pasadena, where she taught Sunday School classes.  In her spare time, she enjoyed taking care of her pets and helping her husband build their home in Federalsburg.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merchant is preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Fuller and sisters, Valjean Horsey and Bea Schofield. She is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Douglas F. Merchant; sons, James R. Schmidt and Daniel J. Schmidt, both of Pasadena; step-sons, Doug Merchant of Severna Park and Thomas Merchant of Colorado; step-daughter, Elizabeth Merchant of Colorado; brother, Ronnie Fuller of Florida; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

    Friends may call on Thursday, April 18 from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, April 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Rd., Pasadena, MD 21122 where services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m.. Interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
