  •            John M. Shipley, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Pasadena died on July 26, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.

    Mr. Shipley was born on July 14, 1934 in Pasadena, MD to the late Melvin S. and Evelyn (Wood) Shipley.

    After graduating from Glen Burnie High School. Mr. Shipley married Dorothy A. Jones. They settled on what was once the family farm, where they raised their family and managed the family marina, Shipley’s Anchorage.

    Mr. Shipley served honorably in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 8 years and was employed as an Electrical Engineer for over 40 years by Northrup Grumman (previouslyWestinghouse).

    Mr. Shipley enjoyed pigeon racing, scouting, golfing, photography, genealogy and traveling.  He amassed a large collection of antique cameras.  His passion for family led to researching family history and editing the 2002 edition of The Shipleys of Maryland. He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved to spend time with his family.

    Mr. Shipley is preceded in death by his parents, twin sons Michael Andrew and William Joseph Shipley, his brother Donald K. Shipley, and his son-in-law Kevin M. Vaught, Sr.

    Mr. Shipley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy A. Shipley, his son John “JayM. Shipley, Jr. (Mary Ellen), his daughter Denice Ann Vaught, his grandchildren; Molly Felmey (Justin), Erin Michael (Billy), Kevin Vaught, Jr., Tom Shipley (Heather), and Tim Vaught, and his great grandchildren; Hannah, Caleb, Annabelle, Liam, Lucas, Grayson, and one on the way.

    Friends may call Tuesday, July 30th from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Stallings Funearl Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. A mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday, July 31st at 10 am at Saint Jane Frances De Chantal Catholic Church, 8499 Virginia Avenue, Riviera Beach, MD 21122. 

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
