  • Judith R. Clemson, 78, a resident of Annapolis for three years and previously of Gibson Island, died June 21 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

    Mrs. Clemson was born May 2, 1930, in Richmond, Va., and was raised in Baltimore. She graduated from Girls Latin High School in Baltimore in 1948, then earned her bachelor's degree from the Maryland College for Women in 1952.

    A homemaker, she was a member of St. Christopher by the Sea, where she was past president of the Women's Guild. She also served was a member and as president of the Gibson Island Garden Club and District II and the state Federated Garden Club of Maryland. She was a director of the Central Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs and was a master flower show judge.

    She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, winning many awards. She also enjoyed traveling, cruises and the beach, and was involved in the Blue Star Memorial Highway program.

    Survivors include her husband of 54 years, D. Buckey Clemson Sr.; one son, D. Buckey Clemson Jr. of Pasadena; one daughter, Kathryn Verbanic of Gibson Island; one brother, John T. Robertson III of Cambridge; and six grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Christopher by the Sea, Gibson Island. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Stallings Funeral Home.
