  • Hugh K. Holmes, 92, a long time resident of Pasadena died on May 16, 2011 at Stella Maris in Timonium.

    He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 31, 1919 to the late Thomas J. and Katherine A. Holmes.

    Mr. Holmes graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1936 and then received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Baltimore in 1944.

    He served honorably in the US Army as CIC Special Agent from 1946 to 1947 and then was commissioned in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps (JAG) from 1950 to 1952.

    Mr. Holmes was a private practice attorney from 1944 until his retirement.  He also served as a judge in the Maryland Trial Magistrate System from 1948 to 1950.

    He was a professional member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the State of Maryland Bar Assoc., the Anne Arundel County Bar Assoc., and the Trial Judges Assoc. of Maryland.  He was also a member of Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church, the Rotary Club of Lake Shore (Charter Member), the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight), and the Chesapeake Region of The Antique Automobile Club of America.

    Mr. Holmes served on the Board of Directors for North Arundel Hospital Association, North Arundel Health System, and North Arundel Savings Bank which he helped found.  He also helped establish the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company.

    His hobbies included listening to music, playing the organ, and antique cars.

    Mr. Holmes is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret A. Holmes, his sons John K. and Joseph T. Holmes, and his parents.

    He is survived by his sons Michael H. Holmes & wife Marguerite, Patrick A. Holmes & wife Elizabeth, and Stephen J. Holmes & wife Lynn, his daughters Ann Marie Elsroad & husband Richard, and Margaret K. Rist & husband George, his grandchildren Jennifer Ann Pascall, Elizabeth M. Reynolds, Gretchin M. McMunn, Keiran J. Homes, Molly E. Rist, Casey P. Holmes, and Anna L. Holmes and 7 great grandchildren.

    Friends may call on Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Stallings Funeral Home, PA.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church.  Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Shore Rotary Club 8230 Champion Court, Pasadena, MD 21122.
