  • Walter O. Gurley, Jr., 86, a 33 year resident of Pasadena died on August 25, 2011 at the Tate Hospice House in Linthicum.

    He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 5, 1924 to the late Walter O., Sr. and Ethel M. Gurley.

    Mr. Gurley was raised in Baltimore City and continued to live there until 1955 when he moved to Baltimore County however the family always maintained a summer home in Pasadena which Mr. Gurley moved to in 1978.

    He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 during WWII aboard the USS Alkes. Mr. Gurley worked as a machinist prior to entering the Navy and then as a firefighter and a repair technician for the Baltimore City Fire Department for 30 years.

    He was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and the Poplar Ridge Senior Group.

    Mr. Gurley is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Dorothy Gurley.

    He is survived by his sons Walter C. Gurley of Baltimore Co., and Robert G. Gurley of Glen Burnie, his sister Marie Truitt of Bel Air, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, as well as his life long friend and companion Mildred "Millie" McClain of Pasadena

    Friends may call on Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Stallings Funeral Home, PA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday 10 AM Community United Methodist Church. Interment Glen Haven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
